It has been 53 years since the Fair Housing Act of 1968 was passed into law.
Intended as a follow-up to the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the act prohibited discrimination in housing based on race, religion, national origin, or sex. When passed, it was meant to eliminate overt discrimination and disparities in the housing market.
Thursday's event will highlight the ongoing need for Fair Housing protections and how this legislation is as important now as it was 53 years ago.
