Former Columbia Housing Resident and Wall of Fame Honoree Inducted into Richland School District One's Hall of Fame

Richland County School District One held its 2023 Hall of Fame Ceremony on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at the Columbia metropolitan Convention Center. The Inductee Class included; Lt. Colonel Charity Adams Earley, Ella McRant, Dr. Carlos L. Smith, and Coach Bobby R. Young.

Dr. Carlos L. Smith is a former resident of Allen Benedict Court, and was inducted into the Columbia Housing Wall of Fame in 2005 for his commitment to directing educational and recreational experiences for citizens of Richland County, particularly the youth.

Dr. Carlos L. Smith is a 1967 graduate of C.A. Johnson High School who spent 36 of his 40 years in education as a teacher, coach, and administrator in Richland One. His contributions to the district include leading the implementation of the C average policy which requires students in grades 6-12 to have at least a 2.0 GPA to participate in competitive co-curricular activities. Dr. Smith was named the 2012-2013 District-Level Administrator of the Year by the South Carolina Association of of School Administrators (SCASA). He retired form the district in 2015 as assistant to the superintendent, ombudsman, and athletics director.

Columbia Housing is proud of Dr. Smith and the other inductees! congratulations on your achievement and thank you all for you deep commitment to the children of Richland School District One!

Honoring the Women Who Lead the Resident Executive Council
Women's History Month Salute

The Resident Executive Council works to improve the quality of life and resident satisfaction for Columbia Housing residents. During the year, the REC hold various events to benefit their neighbors and provide resources to the community.

CEO Yvonda A. Bean said, "We are proud of the strong women that lead the REC. Their experience and dedication make them uniquely suited to represent the residents at Columbia Housing."

Construction at The Oaks at St. Anna's Park Moves Forward

Have you driven by our new $71.8M development under construction on Forest Drive?

Here's a sneak peak at the progress of the Townhomes of The Oaks at St. Anna's Park. It's so exciting!

There will be 95 Senior Units and 190 Family Units at the newly developed site when construction is complete.

Occupancy is anticipated to begin in the Spring of 2024, stay tuned for more details!

CH Residents Take Advantage of Education Program with Midlands Technical College

We could not be prouder of all the Columbia Housing residents already benefitting from our partnership with Midlands Technical College (MTC) and its QuickJobs Program.

Through a special partnership with MTC, many Columbia Housing residents are eligible to enroll (for free) in a host of certificate programs. That's right. Free career training AND job placement. HVAC, Plumbing, CDL, and many more.

Career Development Classes Begin Soon for CH Resident!
Register Now to Save Your Seat!

Columbia Housing will begin a 2-week workshop designed to prepare participants for the workplace. Led by Family Self-Sufficiency Coordinator, Angela Sumpter, sessions will focus on topics like; Stress Management, Conflict Resolution, Goal Setting, and Communication.

"We hope that our residents will take advantage of this opportunity to learn the basics of being an outstanding employee and how to make the most of every work situation" said Ms. Sumpter.

Classes will take palace form 9:00 am until Noon, March 28-30 and April 4-6, 2023, at the Resident & Family Services Building located at 2133 Walker Solomon Way in Columbia.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers FREE tax help to people who generally make $58,000 or less, persons will disabilities, the elderly and limited English speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns.

IRS-Certified volunteers will prepare your taxes for FREE. Please bring your photo ID, Social Security Cards for everyone on your tax form, and all tax related documentation.

Prisma Health is leading a series of wellness "Lunch & Learn" sessions to help keep staff on track for its 90-day "Housers for Health Wellness Challenge'! Coach Ben Pratt's session on "Creating Good Fitness Goals" was right on time!
