Former Resident Success Story:
"It all started in Saxon Homes"
Tennis pro Domino Boulware is the only African-American male ever inducted into the South Carolina Tennis Hall of Fame. He is first to say any success he's ever had is tied to his upbringing in Columbia Housing's Saxon Homes - a public housing community torn down and replaced in 2006 with the Hope VI Celia Saxon affordable housing community.
"It all started in Saxon Homes. I learned to respect my elders and work hard. So when I coach kids, I take what I learned there and share the same character traits with other underserved kids in my community.
I can't think of anything better than helping young people find their way and excel; the way that Saxon Homes did for me," says Boulware.
Domino's volunteer work as a tennis coach at Greenview Park in North Carolina is legendary. He and his wife Jackie are credited with helping thousands of children reach their full potential over the years by first engaging them with tennis and then teaching life lessons.
Boulware tells his players that because he did will in school he got a great job as a videographer with South Carolina ETV. He's covered stories all over the world. His documentaries have won prestigious national awards. Boulware retired after 29 years at SC ETV.
In recognition of his work and philanthropy, Domino was selected in 1993 for induction in Columbia Housing's Wall of Fame.
On May 20, the Boulware's will host a Junior Tennis Tournament at Greenview Park. It's free for all kids, and paid for with community contributions.

CH Staff Retreat at Historic Chappelle Auditorium
"Team Building, Leadership Development, and Customer Services."
"Customer Service is NOT a department, it is an attitude." - Unknown
Interim CEO Yvonda Bean lead a day-long staff retreat on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, in Chappelle Auditorium on the Allen University Campus. The event was focused on team-building, leadership development, and customer service.
HBCUs are steeped in such rich history and tradition that tell the story of the African-American experience in America. Being in the historic Chappelle Auditorium for our staff retreat was doubly meaningful as we reflect on the mission and vision of Columbia Housing.
Thank you Allen University for hosting us.
We left the retreat even more resolved to serve.
