Speak up for Housing and Community Development Spending in FY24.

Congress will only have 18 legislative days before the end of FY24 when they return from the August recess in September. Conversations are happening right now to deal with spending decisions and government shutdown is possible.

Because of inflation and high rent increases, the Transportation-HUD spending bill will need an estimated $13 billion to $15 billion in additional funding over current spending levels just to keep all families who are currently receiving rental assistance in their homes.

The success of HUD programs is dependent on a reliable and open HUD, shutdowns undermine this. Public Housing Authorities (PHAs) also rely on HUD staff to administer the programs and shutdowns can have a significant impact on their ability to serve their communities.
